About the Survey

This short survey is for women aged 30-65 years who are working or studying at Loughborough University and are experiencing menopausal symptoms. In this survey, the term "woman" and "female" refers to individuals with previously, or currently, functioning ovaries, including individuals who do not identify as women.

The reproductive lifecycle for women can be separated into 3 phases: the pre-menopause (with regular menstrual cycles); the peri-menopause (no longer predictable menstrual cycle intervals; starting ~40-44 years of age, lasting until the final menstrual cycle), and post-menopause (12 months after the final menstrual cycle; typically around 50 years of age).  Many women experience symptoms during each of these stages, but they are often experienced more frequently and/or severely in the perimenopause and menopause .  The average duration of symptoms is ~7 years, but may last up to 14 years.  Symptoms include hot flushes, sweating, poor memory, mood swings, joint pains, urinary incontinence, poor sleep, and skin, eye and vaginal dryness.  For some, these symptoms are bothersome enough to impact work.

Researchers at Loughborough would like to get a better understanding of how many staff at Loughborough are experiencing menopausal symptoms and whether these symptoms impact their ability to work. The information from this survey will help us develop best practices to support women in the workplace during this life stage.
