The purpose of this study is to investigate young adults’ use of healthy lifestyle technologies and the influence of these technologies on their physical activity participation and health knowledge. The study will also explore whether school Physical Education has an influence on young adults’ use of these technologies.
This study is part of a PhD student’s research project supported by Loughborough University. The study will be undertaken by Jike Yang and supervised by Professor Lorraine Cale and Dr Ash Casey.
You will be asked to complete an online survey, which should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. You do not need to do anything before completing the survey. This is a low risk activity and no disadvantages or risks have been identified in association with participating.
You must be over the age of 18 and have the capacity to fully understand and consent to this research. You must have previous and/or current experiences of using healthy lifestyle technologies.
Loughborough University will be using information/data from you to undertake this study and will act as the data controller for this study. This means that the University is responsible for looking after your information and using it properly. The data will be used in the PhD thesis and any journal or conference papers that stem from this study.
Identifiable personal information including your name and contact details will be collected. We need your name and contact details as part of the consent process to arrange the focus group and any follow up interviews. Other personal information collected will be your gender and details of which healthy lifestyle technologies you use or have used in the past. No individual will be identifiable in any report, presentation, or publication. All information will be securely stored on the University computer systems. We will keep identifiable personal information about you until the successful completion of the PhD study (expected to be by 01/10/2024).

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), some of the personal data which will be collected from you is categorised as “sensitive data”. The processing of this data is necessary for scientific research in accordance with safeguards. This means that the study has gone through an ethical committee to ensure that the appropriate safeguards are put in place with respect to the use of your personal data.

You can withdraw from the survey at any time by closing the browser. However, once you have submitted the survey it will not be possible to withdraw your data from the study.
